Arthur Barsky, MD
Principal Investigator at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Barsky is the Director of Psychiatric Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.  He and his colleague, Dr. David K. Ahern (staff psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychology (Psychiatry) at Harvard Medical School) have conducted extensive research on and treatments of patients with hypochondriasis.  Dr. Barsky is one of the leading international authorities on the diagnosis and treatment of these problems.  To participate in the Boston Health Study of hypochondriasis and illness concerns, please call 617-732-5969 or email HealthStudy@partners.org.
 

David K. Ahern, Ph.D.
David K. Ahern, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School with extensive experience treating patients with chronic pain and other persistent chronic symptoms.  With Dr. Barsky, he has conducted a number of clinical studies in this area.  Dr. Ahern is also the National Program Director of the Health e-Technologies Initiative, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded program based at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston,  and also holds the position of Chief Science Officer for The Abacus Group, a consulting firm in Rhode Island.

Marina Arakelian, LICSW
Marina Arakelian, LICSW is a clinician with the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic.  She received her certification in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City and is in private practice in Brookline, MA. Her experience ranges from family therapy to trauma and grief counseling following the 9/11 World Trade Center Disaster.

Christine K. Kim, M.D.
Christine K. Kim, M.D. is a staff psychiatrist on the Medical Psychiatry Service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Kim is a clinical instructor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a Site Director for Medical Student and Resident Education in Medical Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She graduated from the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training Program and the Psychosomatic fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

 

Tuesday Burns, M.D.
Tuesday E. Burns, M.D. is a staff psychiatrist in the Department of Outpatient Psychiatry at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is also a fellow in Women's Mental Health at The Fish Center for Women's Health in Chestnut Hill. After attending Brown University, Dr. Burns completed her medical training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and graduated from the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training Program. She is a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School and has particular clinical and research interests in Women's Neuropsychiatry.

Yvonne Nestoriuc, Ph.D.
Yvonne Nestoriuc, Ph.D. has recently completed a clinical research internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Marburg in Germany. Her research interests are in the field of behavioral medicine and she has published on the efficacy of CBT for chronic medical conditions and pain. Dr. Nestoriuc received CBT training at the Institute for Psychotherapy in Marburg, Germany and has had over three years of experience in outpatient psychotherapy.

Susan Larrabee, LISCW
Susan Larrabee is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a Harvard Medical School Teaching Associate. She has worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital for the past 20 years in various departments, including Emergency Medicine, In-patient Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry and Infectious Disease. Her primary responsibilities include providing long-term case management services to patients receiving medical care for treatment of HIV/AIDS, supervising social work interns and staff, and formal and informal teaching of medical providers. After serving for several years as a health educator for the United States Peace Corps in Liberia, West Africa, she received her Masters in Social Work from Boston University in 1988.

 

Melanie Renaud, LICSW, LADCI
Melanie Renaud is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a Harvard Medical School Teaching Associate. She has worked for the Addiction Psychiatry Service in the Department of Psychiatry at Brigham and Women's Hospital for the past four years. Her work consists of conducting comprehensive evaluations, providing outpatient psychotherapy, supervising junior staff, and providing formal and informal teaching. She is also licensed as a drug and alcohol counselor and has a group practice for women in recovery. She has her Masters of Social Work degree from Boston College School of Social Work and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

 

Angela Wilbur, Psy.D.
Angela Wilbur, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Psychiatry/Research. She received her doctorate degree from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. She works full-time at a community health center on the North Shore in addition to her research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

 

Stephanie Erber, Ph.D.
Stephanie Erber, Ph.D. is a CBT therapist at Brigham and Women's Hospital and also works as a psychologist in the behavioral health department of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from New York University. She has a wide range of experience treating adults, adolescents, and children with psychotherapy.

Nyryan Nolido, M.A.
Nyryan V. Nolido, M.A., is the Project Manager of the Health Study and other studies led by Dr. Arthur Barsky. She received her master's degree in Psychology from Boston University, with a concentration in Human Development. Her experience includes research relating to cross-cultural perspectives of familial violence and abuse, work with urban adolescents with various emotional and behavioral problems and work with children with autism spectrum disorders. She plans to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology following her work at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Zvi Shapiro, B.A.
Zvi Shapiro is a Research Coordinator at Brigham and Women’s Hospital involved with all active studies in Dr. Barsky’s lab. He received his B.A. in psychology from Bowdoin College where he assisted in research relating to spoken language processing. He plans on eventually pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology.
