About the study
GENERAL BACKGROUND
The purpose of this study is to help people who have health-related anxiety to cope with their concerns and bothersome physical symptoms that haven't gone away with medical treatment. We are comparing the effectiveness of a common antidepressant drug, fluoxetine (also known as Prozac) with counseling sessions aimed at helping you manage your medical symptoms.
The treatment will last 24 weeks, and include between 11-14 visits, depending on which treatment you receive. You will be paid for the research interviews, but not the treatment sessions, although therapy and study medication will be provided at no cost to you.
